Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of blogging lately. I thought I had a couple of big diamondback fans lined up before the season and well they never logged in to blog lol! So here I am blogging about the Diamondbacks firing Bob Melvin as manager. Sure seems pretty early in the season to be making a move but I guess management thought it would be the best option.

A.J. Hinch, the vice president for player development has been promoted to manager as he hopes to have better success with the young guys than Melvin did in 2009. The 34-year-old Hinch is a former major league catcher with no professional managerial experience. His promotion was first reported by radio station KTAR.

In a weak West Division, the D-backs are currently 8.5 games out of first place with a 12-17 record. Injuries to Brandon Webb and Stephen Drew really has hurt the team. Combine that with terrible starts by Conor Jackson and Mark Reynolds and there is your reason why the team has been so bad so far.

So will Hinch be able to turn things around? Especially with no professional managerial experience? I don’t think so…

Jon Garland told the Arizona Diamondbacks no once, but he couldn’t do it again. Garland and the D-backs have agreed on a one-year contract with possibly a mutual option for a second year. Garland is expected to make between $6-$8 million next season.

Things worked out well for the Diamondbacks considering that Garland turned down a higher offer from the Los Angeles Angles back in December. This year’s free agent market has really dropped and pitchers are looking to sign quicly before prices drop any farther.

The deal is pending Garland passes a physical. Garland was also a type b free agent so he will not cost the Diamondbacks a draft pick.

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updating as of late. Was busy over the holidays and up until recently there wasn’t a whole lot of talk about the Diamondbacks to blog about. I’m sure you have already heard about this news but I figured I’d throw it up on the site anyways.

The D-backs have signed catcher Chris Snyder’s contract as they have gave him a three year exention which should keep him in a Diamondbacks uniform through 2012. Snyder will earn a guranteed $14.25 million but could earn upwards of $20.25 if the option for 2012 is picked up.

The team also announced that they would be bringing veteran Tony Clark back. Clark was signed for one year and will be paid $800,000. I like this move as Clark is a good veteran to have in the clubhouse and can continue helping the young guys out.

The other big news was that Jeff Moorad resigned as CEO of the team as he is part of a group that is trying to purchase the San Diego Padres. To take Moorad’s spot the Diamondbacks announced that Derrick Hall.

We will be more active on the site now that spring training get closer. We are also going to open up the blog to a couple of Diamondbacks fans out there who would like to blog through out the season. Utlity player Augie Ojeda will be a member of the 2009 Arizona Diamondbacks as the two agreed on a one year contract. The one year deal has Ojeda making $712,500 so it isn’t like the D-backcs broke the bank to bring him back. I still expect them to make more deals as they could still use some infield help.

Long time Arizona Diamondback starting pitcher Randy Johnson probably won’t be with the team for the 2009 season. The Big Unit had hoped to re-sign with the Diamondbacks and even offered to take a 50% paycut to reamain with the team but management has other thoughts and that probably includes getting younger at the pitchers position.

“Randy instructed us not to file for free agency until we made every effort to reach an agreement.,” Johnson’s agents, Barry Meister and Alan Nero, said in a statement.

It will be interseting to see what teams are interested in the aging Johnson.

Well the Arizona Diamondbacks are officialy eliminated from post season play as they lose to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals put a hurting on the D-backs as they won 12-3. Congrats to the Los Angeles Dodgers for winning the division.

Five different Diamondbacks pitchers gave up runs in the game as they just didn’t have it going. Doug Davis and Tony Pena were both charged with three runs while Leo Rosales, Yusmeiro Petit, and Jailen Peguero all gave up two runs each. Rosales ended up taking the loss for the team.

Adam Dunn hit a solo home run in the second inning and then Mark Reynolds had a two-run single in the fourth inning but that would be it for the D-backs at the plate. They had problems with Joel Piniero and could just never get anything going.

The D-backs will close out the season with a series against the Colorado Rockies.

The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a huge win Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. The D-backs were victorious by the score of 4-2 as they moved within two games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division. Any win is a big one as the D-backs are in the final week of the season.

Brandon Webb was the winning pitcher as he tossed seven innings and limited the Cardinals to just two runs on eight hits. Webb was good as he had six strike outs and only walked two batters. Brandon Lyon and Chad Qualls both allowed hits in their inning of action each, but they did not allow a run to score which was the big thing.

Stephen Drew led the team by going 3-4 with a rbi double and a solo home run. Conor Jackson and Chad Tracy both added rbi’s of there own in the game as well. It wasn’t the best offensive performance for the d-backs but it was enough to get the win.

So they D-backs have six games left in the regular season and they are down two games in the division to the Dodgers. Do you think they will catch them?

The Arizona Diamondbacks got a scare in the ninth inning but they were able to hold off the San Francisco Giants for the victory. The 7-6 victory over the Giants and the Dodgers loss, puts the D-backs 3.5 games back in the division with 10 games to go in the season.

Brandon Webb picked up his 21st win of the season as he tossed eight inning and only gave up three runs on eight hits. Webb walked two batters and struck out two others in the game. He let his defense help him out rather then trying to strike everyone out.

Doug Slaten had some trouble in the ninth inning as he was charged with two runs. Tony Pena tried to clean up the mess but he was charged with one run as well. Luckily for Pena and the D-backs he was able to get the final two outs of the game via the groundball and the Diamondbacks won.

B.J. Upton and David Eckstein both hit home runs for the D-backs. Upton’s was a two-run shot while Eckstein’s was a solo home run. Brandon Webb had a nice two-run double as well in the game. The rbi tab finished up with Stephen Drew and Conor Jackson both finishing with one rbi each.

Diamondbacks need another win on Thursday night over the Giants however it will be tough as they face off against Tim Lincecum. Diamondbacks Blog

The Arizona Diamondbacks only needed two swings of the bat to beat the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Justin Upton and Adam Dunn both hit home runs off of Giants starting pitcher Brad Hennessey to give the D-backs a 3-1 victory. With the win, the Diamondbacks are now 4.5 games out of first place as the Dodgers continue to play good baseball.

Dunn’s two-run blast came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the game was tied 1-1. Dunn came up huge for the D-backs and they need a lot more of that in the next week and a half if they want any shot at catching the Dodgers.

Doug Davis tossed seven strong innings while only allowed one run to cross the plate. The one run scored on an error by centerfielder Chris Young so it was unearned. Tony Pena tossed a scoreless eighth inning before turning things over to Chad Qualls in the ninth inning. Pena ended up with the win and is now 2-2 while Qualls picked up his fourth save of the season.

The D-backs pretty much need to win all their remaining games to have a shot at catching the Dodgers. I don’t think they will do it but you never know. Just look back to the New York Mets of last year when they faded during the last week of the season. So do you think they will catch the Dodgers? Leave us a comment and let us know!
